A digital twin is a living virtual model of a physical supply chain — its nodes, flows, inventories, and constraints — kept in sync with real data so teams can test decisions virtually before making them.

A supply chain digital twin combines a network model (plants, DCs, lanes, policies) with continuously refreshed operational data. Because it mirrors current reality rather than a snapshot, you can ask it forward-looking questions: what happens to service if this port closes for two weeks, or if we add a West Coast DC?
Day to day, twins turn disruption response from guesswork into rehearsal. Planners run scenarios in minutes — reroute flows, rebalance inventory, requalify suppliers — and compare cost and service outcomes before committing. The twin also exposes chronic problems, like a lane that misses its modeled transit time every winter.
Example: a global electronics firm keeps a twin of its network; when a supplier factory flooded, the team simulated three recovery options overnight and chose the one that protected its top 20 customers at the lowest expedite cost.
