Daily mid-market rates. Rates By Exchange Rate API

Formula

Converted Amount = Amount × (Rate[To] ÷ Rate[From])

Rates are quoted against a single base currency (USD), so any pair is converted with a cross-rate: dividing the target currency's rate by the source currency's rate gives the source→target exchange rate. The table refreshes once per day from ExchangeRate-API; every conversion is then computed locally in your browser, so changing the amount or currencies recalculates instantly.

Variable Definitions

Amount

Amount

The value to convert — a supplier quote, freight invoice, duty payment, or budget line.

From

From Currency

The currency the amount is currently in (e.g., EUR for a European supplier quote).

To

To Currency

The currency you need the amount in (e.g., USD for your landed-cost budget).

Example Calculation

Scenario: A German supplier quotes €48,500 for a container of components, and your landed-cost budget is in US dollars: - Amount: 48,500 - From: EUR To: USD - Rate used: 1 EUR ≈ 1.0850 USD (daily mid-market) Converted amount = 48,500 × 1.0850 ≈ $52,623 Add freight, insurance, and duty on top of the converted goods value to complete the landed cost. If the euro strengthens 3% before payment, the same quote costs ~$1,580 more — which is why quotes held longer than the rate's refresh date should be re-checked before issuing the PO.

How to Interpret Your Result

• The rate shown is the daily mid-market rate — banks and payment providers typically add a 1–4% spread plus fees, so the amount that actually leaves your account will differ. • For POs payable weeks out, treat the conversion as an estimate: budget a currency buffer (1–5% depending on the pair's volatility) or agree the invoice currency in the contract. • Rates refresh once per day. The "last updated" line under the result tells you exactly which day's table you're converting with. • Cross-check large conversions (six figures and up) against your bank's dealing desk before committing — small rate differences compound at scale.
